Providence Health & Services Billing Specialist in Seattle, Washington

Providence St. Joseph Health is calling a Billing Specialist to our location in Renton, WA. This position will work in an office setting for training purposes and upon completion of training will transition to a work from home setting.

We are seeking a Billing Specialist who will contribute to the achievement of departmental and Providence Health and Services (PH&S) goals by:

  • Providing accurate and timely claims billing and account documentation.

The functions described in this position description carry out the Mission, Vision, and Core Values of Providence Health and Services by ensuring that all healthcare services provided at the facility are billed and paid both accurately and timely. These functions are performed in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, and Providence Health and Services policies and procedures.

In this position you will:

  • Ensure complete, accurate and timely electronic and paper billing of insurance claims daily by:

  • Researching and resolving claim edits.

  • Checking that the claim is complete and correct.

  • Ensuring the HIC and PIC numbers are correctly added to patient accounts to ensure proper billing where required.

  • Checking that all other billing and documentation requirements are met.

  • Where required, work secondary billing by WIP accounts off the Account Maintenance Software on a daily basis: update billing, re-bill or forward for medical records.

  • Place claim with facility data integrity and system errors promptly onto the appropriate facility WIP for correction, appeal or authorization for write-off and work the claim on time when returned.

  • Apply late charges and credits to the claim and submit documentation timely and accurately utilizing the SSI Click-On Billing system.

  • Research the account in host system and the Account Maintenance Software and where required determine whether it is appropriate to re-bill or write-off.

  • Identify, research and resolve issues that impede successful electronic and paper billing.

  • Complete Re-bill requests in a timely manner.

  • Where required, resolve miscellaneous correspondence received from insurance carriers, claims collectors and/or facilities.

  • Accurately, clearly and professionally document in the Account Maintenance Software all account changes, updates, and/or instructions for account resolution to ensure proper records are maintained.

  • Work DX-DRG correction report on a daily basis, on time and to standard.

  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient demographic, medical, and financial information. Maintain confidentiality of all Providence Health and Services Revenue Cycle and client information. Ensure proper handling and disposal of confidential documents and adherence to all HIPAA rules and regulations.

  • Comply with all applicable Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, and requirements as well as Providence Health and Services policies and procedures in all aspects of job performance.

Qualifications:

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • 1 year Medical billing experience

  • A track record in organizing and planning with a proven ability to effectively manage time, multi-task, and achieve results in a fast paced environment.

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Certified Patient Account Technician (CPAT).
