Providence is calling a Chaplain (0.0 FTE, Day Shift) to work inHospice Seattle at SCS Hospice in Tukwila, WA.
The Hospice Chaplain is a member of an Interdisciplinary Team (IDT) of clinical care givers who together provide hospice or palliative care to pediatric and adult patients and their families. The Hospice Chaplain provides spiritual care for patients and families and serves as liaison with community clergy.
The Hospice Chaplain reports primarily to the Patient Care Services Manager with regard to work assignment and schedule, and performance management; this position reports also receives clinical supervision and guidance from the Spiritual Care Supervisor with regard to discipline-related aspect of the position.
In this position you will:
Assess the spiritual needs and resources of the hospice patient, family, other care givers, and friends and assist with families using their faith in dealing with End of Life issues
Establish and implement a plan of care and age appropriate spiritual interventions in accordance with the team’s goals.
Provide counseling for the dying person to develop and strengthen his/her own spiritual beliefs and resources throughout the dying process.
Facilitate development of appropriate spiritual expressions within Hospice team and with patients, family and friends.
Provide safe and positive environment for families to express their faith on their own meaningful ways, and serves as a resource in response to the patients’ and their families’ spiritual needs.
Required qualifications for this position include:
Master's Degree in Theology, religious studies or religious education from a school accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
Completion of a minimum of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE), preferably within a health care setting.
Certification by the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), or National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) is required within three (3) years of the date of hire.
Ecclesiastical Endorsement by a recognized faith group for ministry in a specialized setting.
Ordination or commissioning to function in a ministry of pastoral care.
Current Washington State Driver’s license.
Healthcare Provider CPR certification earned through training approved by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
- Two (2) years of Chaplain experience.
